A “co-societal ” hub for open innovation [P5.S3]

AIM: To create an open “co-societal” innovation hub with the participation of relevant stakeholders from the academia, industry, government, and the third sector at large to address collectively innovative solution to the most demanding shared concerns of society.
The hub will open to the participation of scholars, students, and representatives of the government, civil society and industry the activity of teaching and research related to the challenges and needs of the society. For this we propose to build and implement two hubs one in Santiago and the other in Valparaíso. These hubs will be meeting points of stakeholders with the purpose of identifying challenges and developing innovative solutions for the different problems that emerge in society at large, such as to reduce and control forest fires, to optimize industrial processes, to generate new products and businesses, and so forth.
The hubs are a space in which the best academic teams will merge with critical representatives of companies and organizations in a specific area to combine experiences, capacities, and knowledge. These sharing visions will overcome the in-the-box thinking that is typical in every area and organization, thus testing new ideas and concepts with professionals, scholars, and students that work in other fields. Such new ideas would be generated from the conventional structures within the university and industry.
